Sometimes referred to as ‘prehito’, this Sephardic dessert comes from Turkey.

Ingredients

1 cup bulgur wheat
4 cups water
1/4 cup sugar
Cinnamon, for topping
Walnuts, for topping
1-2 tbl. honey

Directions

  1. Bring water to a boil and add bulgur. Lower to simmer for 30 minutes, stirring frequently.
  2. Add sugar and simmer an additional 10 minutes or until bulgur is cooked. Add water as required.
  3. Remove from heat and pour into a 9" pie plate.
  4. Drizzle honey over top and sprinkle with cinnamon and chopped walnuts.
  5. Let cool and cut into squares or diamond shapes
  6. Serve cold or at room temperature.
