Publishing Recipes to Your Web Site or Blog
What is Jewish Recipe Trader?
JRT is a place to share and find Jewish recipes. At JRT, we are motivated
by a desire to help preserve the rich variety of Jewish cooking.
What are Jewish recipes?
Jewish cooking spans the globe and anywhere Jews live or have lived they
have adapted local dishes to suit their own styles, tastes and laws.
Expect to find kosher versions of Indian, European, African, and Middle
Eastern cooking on JRT!
Are JRT recipes kosher?
We review recipes to make sure that they don’t call for pork or shellfish,
and that don’t mix meat and dairy. If we see a recipe that calls for
butter, we may ask the recipe author to resubmit the recipe using olive
oil or margarine, as appropriate. If you find that a recipe calls for
a non-kosher cut of meat or fish, let us know and we’ll contact the author.
Why
do some of the advertisements on JRT reference non-kosher foods?
We rely on third parties to select appropriate advertisements to display
on our site – from time to time ads that are not appropriate for a Jewish
recipe site will appear.
I have an idea for a great feature for JRT. What should I do?
Fill out our contact form and describe your ideas and
feedback!
I submitted a recipe, why doesn’t it appear?
When you registered, you are automatically granted “author” status – this
means you can submit recipes but they must be reviewed by JRT staff before
they are publicly available. A limited number of users will be granted
“Trusted Author” or “Editor” access – their recipes will be available
immediately.
I updated a recipe that was previously approved, but now I can’t
find it. Why?
Recipe updates must be reviewed by JRT staff to make sure that the updates
conform to the JRT terms of service. Updates include both the text edits
and image uploads.
I want to add a holiday recipe, but I can’t find it in the list
of holidays. What can I do?
Go ahead and add the recipe and contact us to let us
know we should consider adding a new holiday to the list. Once we’ve added it,
you can edit your recipe to reference the holiday.
Can I add recipes from other sites or cookbooks?
We prefer you add your own recipes. You may submit recipes you’ve modified
from the original. Remember that the recipe description is part of the
recipe – we encourage you to add your personal story – that helps make
the recipe your own and is more interesting to others. Exact recipe copies
will not be approved.
I found my recipe on the site, but I didn't submit it. What can
I do?
Contact us and let us know where the recipe is
published. After we confirm your information, we'll remove the recipe from
our site.
Are comments reviewed before publishing?
No. Comments are immediately posted. If visitors observe any abusive
comments, they should report it by clicking the “Report Abuse” link next
to each comment. We’ll either edit or remove the comment and if the author
is a repeat offender, we may restrict their access to JRT.
I forgot my sign in information. What can I do?
To reset your password, click on the "Forgot
Your Password?" link on the sign-in page.
Enter in your username and a new password will be sent to the email address
in your profile.
If you've forgotten your username, please contact tech support.
What information is displayed in my public profile?
Your public profile includes:
- your username
- your first and last names (if you provide them)
- information you entered about yourself (“About Me”)
- Your recipes! This is a great way to share your favorite recipes with your friends.
Your first and last names are not required to register so if you wish to keep them private edit your profile to remove them. Your email information is never displayed.
How can I add a profile picture?
If you registered using your Facebook login, we'll automatically pick up
your profile picture. We will also look for a Gravatar profile
picture.
Gravatar is a free service
that allows you to create a single common
profile picture to be used on multiple web sites. Just visit gravatar.com and
make sure to use the same email address you used to register at JRT.
How can I make my profile public?
You can edit your profile by selecting "My
Profile" from the "My JRT" menu.
To make you profile public, check the box next to "Public".
I don't want questions about my recipes. Can I do that?
You
may keep your profile public and opt to turn off the option
allowing users to ask questions about your recipe. To do so, uncheck the
box next to the text "Check to allow users to send you questions about
your recipes".
If you do allow questions, your email address will not be exposed by JRT. However, if you respond to the email, then you will expose your email address.
If your profile is not public, then users will not be able to ask questions regardless of this setting.
Can I see all
the recipes posted by a particular JRT member?
Yes, if the member has made his or her profile public. To find a members
profile page, click on any recipe posted by that member. Under the recipe
title, click on the members username. If the profile is available for
viewing, you'll find a listing of all their recipes, plus information about
that member.
How do I create a Cookbook?
Every registered user gets a free cookbook on JRT. Use your cookbook to collect
your favorite recipes from any other or category. To add a recipe, click

Publishing to Your Web Site or Blog
Can I publish recipes
from JRT to my web site?
Yes! If your organization - a Synagogue, youth group, sisterhood or community
organization - publishes member recipes, you can use JRT to manage the recipes
and publish them back to your web site or even multiple web sites. The benefit
is that your recipes can gain a wider audience through JRT and you only need
to enter them one time.
To publish, follow these simple steps:
- Register on JRT - only registered members can submit and publish recipes. Register using your organization name and make sure you describe your group. Finally, make sure you leave your profile "public".
- Enter your recipes!- Go to "MyJRT" menu and select "Submit A Recipe". You can add a picture by editing the recipe later. Your recipe may need to be reviewed by JRT staff - once we get to know you, we can change your status to "Trusted Author" and your recipes will be immediately available.
- Publish Your Recipes - Go to the "MyJRT" menu, select "My Profile" then "Publish My Recipes" and follow the instructions.
If you make updates to your recipes, repeat step 3.
