Beef Barley Soup

1/4 cup chopped parsley
3 pound beef stew meat
1 3/4 quart water
3 carrots diced
1 16 ounce can crushed, peeled tomatoes
2 stalks celery, diced
2 onions, chopped
salt and pepper to taste
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 cup pearl barley
1 white turnip diced


  1. Place all ingredients, except barley, in a large pot and bring to a boil.
  2. Lower to simmer and cook for 2 1/2 hours.
  3. Add barley and cook until tender.
