Vegetarian Harira (Lentil and Chickpea Soup)
(5 ratings)

We recently ate harira at a Moroccan restaurant and I enjoyed it so much I asked my Morrocan born father about it. He has vivid memories of eating harira as a child in Morocco. His mother would get up early in the morning to prepare a large pot all 8 children would eat in the mornings. It made me want to try and make the soup myself. His mother used all fresh ingredients, but we can take some short cuts with canned chick peas.

Made the vegetarian Harira for my poker group. Big hit! Love the spice combination. Used dried garbanzo beans and canned lentils, the last of the garden tomatoes, now very ripe, and lots of cilantro. Thinking of how spicy lamb would taste. Thank you for this wonderful recipe!

I used this recipe to make harira for the first time and it was amazing! I did substitute 2 cups of water for two cups of vege broth, I was afraid that it would be too watered down otherwise.
Thanks for sharing!

Both my sister and I love this tasty soup. I'm a novice cook, but found the recipe pretty easy to follow, and it gives great results every time. It's very easy to spice up, too, if you want.
