Lynne,You are right that there is a lot of antisemitism out there and a lot of hteard towards Israel out there. But I think this poll is also accurate, since it squares with past polls. So I think it's important for those of us in the U.S. who care about Israel and work for Israel to keep these numbers in mind as we go about our work. Not only does Israel have a lot of support, but if you look at some other polls (I don't have the links sorry), Americans understand the Arab/Israel conflict in an accurate way and that's what brings them to a pro-Israel position. What the polls have shown is that most Americans understand that Arab hostility exists not because of settlement building or the occupation of territory or any other Israeli action, but because Arabs object to Israel's very existence within any borders. This is the root of the conflict and whenever we talk about Israel we must emphasize this again and again. The conflict is a result of the Arab's unwillingness to accept a Jewish right to self determination. For the Arabs, Israel shouldn't exist.I learned this, along with many other things, from from Ami Isseroff, who passed away not that long ago. I know Yaeli knew him too.We need to tell Israel's side of the story and Ami always reminded me where to start and end in doing that. This poll shows many people will be open to our comments. There is a lot of hate out there, especially on the Internet. But I think the Internet acts as an echo chamber that amplifies the voices of extremists and makes them appear to be more powerful than they are. There's a real danger in that, but we need to remember what's happening with the vast majority too. We can't be complacent, but we shouldn't panic either.Shabbat Shalom
